About Us
The Oxford University Vikings is part of the OUIHC (Oxford University Ice Hockey Club). The Vikings are a combined team of students and staff from both Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University.
The primary aim of the Vikings is to allow players of all levels to play hockey in a relaxed and fun environment whilst competing against other University teams of a comparable level.
The Vikings are the mens second team and participate in a cup competition against other university teams in the southern division of the second tier of the cup competition run by the BUIHA (British Universities Ice Hockey Association). The regular season's endeavours culminate in the annual Varsity Challenge against the Cambridge Eskimos. A rich rivalry, steeped in history, the matches are always hard fought and closely contested affairs. To round off the season in style there are also the National Championships held in April, where every team in University hockey converges on Sheffield for a weekend of tournament matches. The Vikings won the Tier 2 title in 2007 defeating the hosts Sheffield Bears in a close final.
